Activities & Volunteer

Giving back to the community is at the heart of a Brooklyn College education — developing empathy, responsibility, and a lifelong commitment to service.

Community Service

Making a Difference Beyond The Classroom

As part of the Ontario Secondary School Diploma, students are required to complete a minimum of 40 hours of community service before graduation. International students who already hold a diploma from their home country are required to complete 10 hours.

The purpose of this volunteer work is to remind students of their community obligations and encourage them to contribute to society. Brooklyn College encourages students to volunteer beyond the required number of hours.

Students are responsible for completing the required hours on their own time — during lunch, after school, on weekends, or during holidays. All volunteer activities must be approved by the school.
