Brooklyn Students Compete in Canada’s Premier Math Competition and Return with Honors.
As the results of the 2025 COMC Canadian Open Mathematics Challenge and CSMC Canadian Senior Math Contests were announced, Brooklyn students distinguished themselves among numerous participants with their solid mathematical foundation and sharp problem-solving skills. They successfully earned certificates of honor, showcasing their brilliance through sheer talent and adding another glorious chapter to the school’s achievements!
Two Premier Competitions, Maximum Prestige
Excelling in these two competitions not only represents the highest recognition of students’ mathematical abilities but also showcases the comprehensive qualities and international competitiveness of Brooklyn students.
COMC
The Canadian Open Mathematics Challenge (COMC), Canada’s premier national mathematics competition, is widely regarded as the “Canadian Mathematical Olympiad.” As the country’s most prestigious mathematical event and the initial selection round for Canada’s national math team, it attracts virtually all of Canada’s top mathematical talents, making the competition fiercely intense.
The Canadian Open Mathematics Competition (COMC) is initiated by the Canadian Mathematical Society and jointly organized by the Department of Mathematics at the University of Toronto and other renowned universities. Since its inception, the competition has attracted nearly 10,000 participants annually from across Canada and draws mathematics enthusiasts from numerous countries and regions worldwide. Recognized as a significant achievement by top Canadian universities such as the University of Waterloo, the COMC provides students with a valuable asset for their future academic pursuits.
CSMC
The Canadian Intermediate Mathematics Contest (CIMC) and Canadian Senior Mathematics Contest (CSMC), hosted by the University of Waterloo, are official Canadian mathematics competitions open to students worldwide from grades 7 to 12. These contests hold significant international influence. Organized by the Canadian Education in Mathematics and Computing Centre (CEMC) within the Department of Mathematics at the University of Waterloo—the world’s largest mathematics faculty—these contests differ from the COMC, which focuses on selecting top-tier talent. Instead, the CSMC emphasizes sparking students’ deep interest in mathematics through a series of engaging and challenging problems, enhancing their ability to solve complex issues and cultivate mathematical reasoning skills.
It is worth noting that the University of Waterloo Mathematics Competition Series has a decades-long history as an official mathematics competition for high school students worldwide. It enjoys an exceptionally high international reputation, with its results recognized by top universities in Canada, the United States, and other countries. As a high-level event within this series, the CSMC serves as an excellent platform for students to enhance their academic competitiveness and enrich their personal resumes.
Brooklyn College also achieved an outstanding 13th place in the CSMC competition thanks to the hard work of its exceptional students! Once again, we extend our sincere gratitude to the faculty and students for their dedicated efforts!
Behind every glory lies relentless effort. The outstanding achievements of Brooklyn students in two top-tier competitions stem not only from their own diligence but also from the dedicated guidance and unwavering support of their teachers. Under the teachers’ careful guidance, the students prepared thoroughly for the competition. They actively trained during their free time, constantly challenging themselves and overcoming numerous difficulties. Through their actions, they embodied the spirit of “perseverance and pursuit of excellence,” showcasing the Brooklyn students’ courage to take on challenges, enthusiasm for exploration, and commitment to excellence.
Every effort is recognized, every perseverance resonates. Brooklyn will remain true to its founding mission, deepening its commitment to education by building more premium growth platforms and international exchange opportunities for students, empowering each one to shine with their own unique brilliance!
